Alexander Hildebrand (*Saturday, 24 December 1921 in Tallinn; † Wednesday, 3 August 2005 in Stockholm) was a significant Swedish chess composer. He was a well-known collector of chess stamps and was born in the zodiac sign of Capricorn

An excellent chess study composer  Since 1938, Hildebrand has published more than 350 chess compositions, including 150 studies. 85 of his compositions have received awards, including 20 first places.

His favourite themes were the albino, the pickanniny and pawn conversions.

As study composer

For his chess studies, the composer only needed bulky material on both sides. The average length of his studies is between 4 moves and 10 moves. From today's perspective, most of his chess studies seem very simple, but they can be useful for training and solving competitions, for example.

Editor
Hildebrand was a journalist. From 1956 to 1961 he was editor of the studies section of the magazine Tidskrift för Schack. From 1966 to 1974 he was studies editor of the magazine Stella Polaris.

Titles

In 1956 Hildebrand became an International Arbiter of Chess Composition and in 1977 the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded him the title of International Master of Chess Composition. Hildebrand was a delegate of Estonia and later of Sweden to the FIDE Permanent Commission for Chess Composition (PCCC).

About his endgame studies                                                                                                                                                       For his chess studies, the composer only needed bulky material on both sides. The average length of his studies is between 4 moves and 10 moves.
The degree of difficulty and the artistic standard of his studies is very high, so that his chess studies are still attractive today as timeless jewels.
