Chess composer

Charles Lewis Fitch (24.7.1845-8.9.1930) belonged to the group of American chess composers who came together around Shinkman and his nephew Otto Wurzburg towards the end of the 19th century and, as A. C.. White, made Grand Rapids a stronghold of problem composition, producing more good problems than any other city of comparable size. Although Fitch made no great claims as a composer, his problems were characterised by originality. Many of his chess problems were published under the pseudonym Marc.
