Herbert Fux (* 25 March 1927 in Hallein; † 13 March 2007 in Switzerland) was an actor and the first Green politician to be elected to the Salzburg City Council.
Obituary
He was a fighter. He spoke up when others had long remained silent, and he got involved when others had already given up. The state capital of Salzburg, in particular, benefited from this.
Fux successfully fought against politicians and property speculators to preserve the old town. And he was one of the central figures when it came to permanently protecting the green space from development. A commitment that made him one of the founding fathers of the Citizens' List and thus of the Austrian Green Movement. In 1977, Fux was elected to the city council and repeatedly caused a stir with his speeches against property speculators and the politicians who supported them.
Later, Fux moved to the National Council. He was there when the Greens first made it into the National Council, became their honorary chairman, and later left after a dispute. His political successors in the Salzburg Citizens' List also felt his wrath. Because he believed they had betrayed his political legacy, he broke with them.
He never lost his commitment to the end. Whenever something bothered him in Salzburg, he raised the alarm, even though he had often emphasized that Salzburg and its people no longer interested him. Mayor Heinz Schaden described Fux as a model of commitment and dedication, even though the SPÖ had often engaged in heated debates with him. City Councilor Johann Padutsch and parliamentary group leader Helmut Hüttinger, speaking for the Citizens' List, said that "Herbert Fux has made lasting contributions to Salzburg's old town and the cityscape that extend far beyond his death."
Deputy Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) described Fux as "a lateral thinker who never minced his words." Former municipal councilor Albert Angerer said it was a pleasure to work closely with Fux for many years.
Herbert Fux also performed at the Salzburg Festival, for example, as the Second Treasurer in "Faust II" at the 1963 Salzburg Festival and in "Danton's Death" at the 1982 Salzburg Festival.
Herbert Fux found his final resting place in the cemetery in Hallein.
