Rudolf Teschner (16-02-1922 - 23-07-2006)

German chess composer

He was a chess player (Honorary GM) and writer. He also composed a few chess problems.

Rudolf Teschner (February 16, 1922, Potsdam – July 23, 2006, Berlin-Steglitz) was a German chess master and author.

Biography
Teschner was seven times Berlin Champion. In 1948, he won the Eastern Zone Championship in Bad Doberan and in 1951 the German Championship (held in Düsseldorf).

Teschner was a leading member of the German Chess Olympiad team in 1952 and 1956. In 1957, he received the title of International Master from FIDE.

He placed 2nd and 3rd at the Zonal Tournament in Berg en Dal in 1960 and twice 1st and 4th at the Christmas Tournaments in Reggio Emilia (1963/1964 and 1964/1965). Teschner participated in the 1962 Interzonal Tournament in Stockholm.

In 1992, FIDE awarded him the free grandmaster title, making him the first chess player in history. Chessmetrics retrospectively ranked him 40th in the world in May 1968 [2] , when he played very successfully at the Bamberg tournament and won the prize for the most beautiful chess game.

Between 1950 and 1988, Teschner worked as editor of the Deutsche Schachzeitung (the oldest surviving chess magazine in the world) and wrote numerous books and articles about chess.
