    Ariadna Efron (September 5 (18), 1912, Moscow — July 26, 1975, Tarusa) — translator, memoirist, artist, art historian, poet, daughter of Marina Tsvetaeva and Sergei Efron. Wrote poems in childhood, published by her mother. Lived abroad from 1922 to 1937 (Czechoslovakia, France). Studied art and art history in Paris, collaborated with French and Russian magazines, and translated Soviet poets, including Mayakovsky. Returned to the USSR in 1937, worked at “Revue de Moscou”. In 1939, illegally arrested, subjected to brutal torture, rape, and other abuses, leading to her “confession” at age 27 of spying for France; sentenced to 8 years in labor camps. Exiled to Turukhansk in 1949. Rehabilitated in 1955. Edited Tsvetaeva’s works and translated French poetry, including Hugo, Baudelaire, and Verlaine. Died of a heart attack in Tarusa.
