On April 13, as a result of a cynical strike by Russian occupiers on Sumy, the prominent pianist and teacher at the Sumy College of Arts and Culture Olena Kohut was killed. She became a victim of a missile strike on the city’s downtown when peaceful residents gathered for Palm Sunday.

Colleagues and students are shocked by this tragedy. For them, Olena was not only a teacher but also a true mentor and a source of inspiration. She was known for her musical mastery and her dedication to developing young talents.

Olena Kohut was not only a great pianist and organist but also an orchestra artist at the Sumy National Theater named after Shchepkin. As a solo organist, she performed melodies that captivated listeners, and her performances had immense cultural significance. Olena also actively promoted Ukrainian culture by performing the National Anthem of Ukraine in historic churches across Europe.

Colleagues and students remember Olena as a person who imparted not only knowledge but also humanity, kindness, and optimism. She was able to unlock the potential of each student and was a sincere support for her pupils.

Olena Kohut left an unforgettable mark in the hearts of her family, colleagues, and students. She left a bright memory and love in each of her performances and in every word she spoke. Colleagues express their deepest condolences to Olena’s family and pray that the Lord will give them the strength to endure this heavy loss.

The death of Olena Kohut is yet another tragic example of the cruelty of war, which takes the lives of the best and most talented people.
