The man accused of the deadly New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42. Law enforcement sources confirmed the suspect’s identity to Fox 8 just before noon on Wednesday, Jan. 1. The FBI later confirmed the identity.
Jabbar is accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck through barricades into a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street near Canal Street early Wednesday morning.
Police superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said of the man responsible for the bloodbath that he was driving
“at a very fast pace,” and “trying to run over as many people as he possibly could.”
The carnage broke out despite over 300 officers being present on Bourbon Street.
The FBI said in a statement, “This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing a number of people and injuring dozens of others. The subject then engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased."
The truck used in the attack had a Texas license plate and was carrying an ISIS flag, according to the FBI. A handgun, an AR-style rifle, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found inside.
According to sources who spoke to The Post, Shamsud was raised in Texas and had served in the military for ten years. According to police sources, he had what looked to be a "Islamic caliphate or ISIS" flag on his vehicle at the time of the incident.
The truck owner who plowed down dozens of partygoers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans said he had nothing to do with the crime and had rented the EV to someone else.

According to Fox News, the truck was tracked crossing the southern border into the U.S. at Eagle Pass, Texas, in November. The person who crossed the border with the vehicle in November is not believed to be the attacker.
