Nine killed children
April 4, 2025, a tragedy struck Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, when the Russian military launched a ballistic missile attack on a residential area of the city. According to the latest reports, at least 18 people, including 9 children, were killed. The strike occurred around 6:00 PM local time, targeting civilian infrastructure, including an area near a children’s playground where families were present.
Later that evening, Kryvyi Rih faced another attack with unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), which sparked fires and claimed the life of an elderly woman in her home. In total, over 60 people were injured, with around 40 hospitalized, including several children—the youngest being just three months old. Two children and 17 adults remain in critical condition.
Ukrainian officials, including Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Serhiy Lysak and city defense council head Oleksandr Vilkul, stated that the attack was deliberately aimed at mass civilian casualties, not military targets, as claimed by Russia’s Ministry of Defense, whose assertions of hitting a "military objective" were dismissed by Ukraine as disinformation.
This assault is considered one of the deadliest in Kryvyi Rih this year, prompting widespread outrage and calls for increased international pressure on Russia. The city declared three days of mourning from April 7 to 9 to honor the victims.
Total casualties:
- Killed: 19 (18 from the missile strike, including 9 children, and 1 from the drone attack).
- Injured: Over 60, with 40 hospitalized.
