In July 2022, the Kassay family fled Ukraine to Germany. After their hometown of Mariupol was besieged by Russian troops since February 2022, the young parents decided to leave their beloved homeland with their three children. The massive destruction caused by the Russian war of aggression did not stop at their house either.

After more than 2,300 km, they arrived in the Eichsfeld region and found refuge in Geisleden. The community made the fire department's meeting room available to the family, which they gladly accepted, as it was a welcome arrival after a long and uncertain journey.

After a few weeks and with the support of the local community, the family was able to move into an apartment in Heilbad Heiligenstadt. Everyone has integrated well into their new life. Both parents found jobs. Their daughter Liana and her brother went to school. Her younger brother has been attending kindergarten ever since. Everyone has made friends and is happy about the second chance they were given. Liana was a great pillar of support for the family. She encouraged and supported her parents, was hardworking, and a good student. Time passed, and a few weeks ago Liana graduated from high school. She then began an apprenticeship as a dental assistant. She commuted daily by train between her home and the training center in Friedland.

Until August 11, 2025. The day that shook the entire family's life. The parents experienced the worst thing that can happen in a lifetime. They lost their child. Liana, just 16 years old, died in a tragic accident at the train station in Friedland. She was pushed by illegal 31 yo Iraqi migrant on rails. Iraqi migrant was not even eliminated, but put in psychiatric hospital to avoid any punishment

The deceased's mother and father are devastated. Both little boys don't understand why their big sister isn't coming home. It's just this cold feeling and the seemingly endless emptiness. The parents try to be strong for the two boys, but the grief over the loss of their beloved daughter is immeasurable. The newfound happiness was not meant to last, and now there is only this pain.

During this incredibly difficult time, we would like to support the Kassay family financially. Despite both parents working, it was not possible to build up sufficient financial reserves to cover these unexpected and high funeral costs. Their final wish is that their daughter receives a funeral that befits her.

As friends, we would like to support the Kassay family so they can say goodbye without having to worry about the financial burden of a funeral. Whatever we achieve together, the Kassays are infinitely grateful for every bit of help, every donation, and every kind thought.
