Amir ibn al-Khattab, real name Samer Saleh as-Suwaylim, born in Arar, Saudi Arabia, likely 1969. Some sources cite 1963 or other origins (Jordan, Yemen). Also known as Habib Abd al-Rahman. In 1987, Amir traveled to the USA, New York, for studies but soon joined fighting in Afghanistan (1987–1992) against Soviet forces. Severely wounded in Jalalabad and Kabul, lost several fingers. In 1993, fought in Tajikistan, attacking Russian border guards. In 1994, returned to Afghanistan, training fighters. In 1995, Amir arrived in Chechnya, led operations in the First Chechen War. Established the Kavkaz training camp near Serzhen-Yurt. In 1998, joined the Congress of Ichkeria and Dagestan Peoples, led the Islamic Peacekeeping Brigade. In 1999, with Shamil Basayev, directed attacks in Dagestan. Accused of terrorist attacks in Buynaksk, Moscow, and Volgodonsk (1999). On 20 March 2002, Amir was killed by Russian special services, poisoned via Ibrahim Alauri. Activities
In 1996, Amir married Fatima Bidagova, a Dagestani from Karamakhi. Her father, Salman Basayev, accepted Amir as a son. Amir spoke multiple languages, limped on his left leg, and was fond of video recordings.
