Born in Russia on June 20, 1918 to Latvian parents, Paul was raised and educated in Latvia. He attended the University of Latvia in Riga, but his education was interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Paul completed his education in Germany at the Technical University in Hanover. He came to Canada in 1948 and worked for Ontario Hydro until his retirement in 1983. After retirement, Opa dedicated himself to family and spent 30 happy years helping to raise his grandchildren at home, on trips and at the family cottage on Head Lake.
