IM Emil Richter (* Sunday 14 January 1894 in Prague - † Tuesday, 16 March 1971 in Prague) was a Czechoslovak chess player and study composer

"Emil Richter composed about 220 chess studies but also problems (direct and selfmates). He was a powerful chess player."

Richter represented his country at the unofficial 1936 Chess Olympiad in Munich. He won the Czechoslovak individual championship in Bratislava in 1948. In 1954, he was awarded the title of International Master (IM).

In addition to his activities as a chess player, Richter also composed numerous endgame studies.
