Franz Ferdinand Ludwig Palatz (* 18 July 1896 in Hamburg; † 12 June 1945 in Chelyabinsk) was a German chess composer and head of the problem section of the Deutsche Schachblätter.

Palatz composed more than 500 chess problems, mainly two-move and multi-move problems. He received a prize for many of them. However, he also dealt with auxiliary mates, rarely with studies.
