Chess composer

The American problemist Kenneth Samuel Howard (12 April 1882 - 20 July 1972) was head of the problem section of the American Chess Bulletin from 1935 to 1949. In addition, he composed around a thousand problems, mostly two- or three-move problems, and wrote a whole series of problem books. He began in 1943 with his very successful The enjoyment of chess problems, which went through three editions until 1961. He continued in 1945 with How to solve chess problems, which was followed in 1962 by One hundred years of the american two-move chess problem and in 1965 by Spectacular chess problems. In 1970, at the age of 88, he concluded his publishing activities with Classic chess problems by pioneer composers, a compilation of 155 problems which included almost all composers of note, be it Sam Loyd, White, Klett, Shinkman, Havel, Wurzburg, Kohtz and Kockelkorn, Heathcote etc.
