Tivadar Kardos (* 26 September 1921 in Budapest; † 15 May 1998) was a Hungarian chess composer and author.

Kardos - an academic by profession - composed more than 400 chess problems. He mainly focussed on two-move chess puzzles as well as self and auxiliary mate puzzles.

He was also active as an organiser. He was chairman of the Budapest Chess Problems Committee. Together with István Rágó, he published the magazine "Feladványkedvelők Lapja" (Journal of Problem Friends) from 1969 to 1975.

Die Schwalbe, Issue 311, October 2021 wrote about him:

"Tivadar Kardos (26.9.1921-15.5.1998) was a very active problemist from 1942 onwards - the PDB alone contains 1480 problems by him. In addition to composition, he also compiled several problem collections, which he used to write many articles in which certain topics were systematically treated. He was head of the problem section of the journal Budapesti Sakkhiradó and edited the journal Feladvány-kedvelök lapja from 1969 to 1975 (even in the years of publication of this journal it was a challenge to pronounce its name without dropping it)."
