Josef Moraveć (20.3.1882-29.8.1969)
Chess composer
The Czech composer Josef Moraveć (20.3.1882-29.8.1969) came from a humble background and was able to enter the teaching profession. In addition to chess, he found other interests, with music particularly captivating him. As a member of a Prague choir, he performed in Berlin and Paris, among other places. Moraveć composed both chess problems and endgame studies, each in his own personal style.
His Bohemian chess problems are atypical of the school in that they lack constructive lightness and often show positions rich in stones; this is also the case here, where he manages an extraordinary accumulation of model mates with a full board.
