Günter Schiller (31.10.1937-4.10.1992) Germain chess composer
He was the tireless driving force behind problem chess in the GDR, died 25 years ago. He committed himself to problem chess at an early stage and from 1973 headed the chess column of the Sächsische Zeitung, which was founded by Georg Kaiser in 1958 and continued by Hans Vetter from 1984. Schiller was also a member of the GDR's "Commission for chess problems and endgame studies" and de facto its ambassador to Western countries for many years; a dearly bought perk, as he was only able to travel because diabetes had made him an early retiree.
