Ludwig Zagler, (26. September 1938 – 30. November 2007)
was a German computer scientist at the Technical University of Munich, chess player, chess composer, member of the German chess problem association Die Schwalbe and computer chess researcher and programmer. Together with Siegfried Jahn he was co-author of the chess programme Daja , which took part in the first German computer chess tournament, the First GI Computer Chess Tournament in Dortmund in 1975, and author of the chess programme Elsa, which took part in the 2nd WCCC in Toronto in 1977. In co-operation with Thomas Ströhlein, Ludwig Zagler researched chess endgames with three and four pieces and carried out a complete retrograde analysis to create endgame databases for KRK and KRKB .
