Benjamin S. Wash (* 26.07.1853 - † 1906)
American chess composer
Benjamin Wash had composed more than 1,000 chess problems. However White had lost the volume where these problems were recorded and only a small amount of those could be reconstructed. The remaining problems are good enough to make one wonder about the scope of Wash's works.
Die Schwalbe (Germain magazine for chess composing) wrote about him
"The American Benjamin S. Wash (26 July 1853-1906), who died 100 years ago, was already one of the largely "forgotten" chess composers more than 60 years ago. A.C. White wrote in 1942 that Wash allegedly composed more than 1,000 chess problems, but lost the notebook in which he had recorded them, after which only a small proportion could be reconstructed. Whether this is a case of missed immortality, we will probably never know. "
He died at the age of around 52.
