The Latvian chess composer Visvaldis Veders (24.01.1921-11.05.1997)

Chess composer of chess problems

He composed his first chess problems at the age of twelve. Before the war, he managed to compose more than 200 problems, which did not rise above a certain technical level. From 1946 onwards, there followed a phase of lively and successful playing activity, during which he became USSR champion in the Soviet Union team championship with the Latvian team. In 1968 he returned to problem chess, took over the chairmanship of the Latvian Commission for Chess Composition and subsequently organised a wide range of activities. He also published a number of his compositions in "Die Schwalbe" until shortly before his death 25 years ago.
