Julius Perlis (* January 19, 1880 in Białystok, Russian Poland; † September 11, 1913 on the Hochtor East Ridge, Ennstal Alps) was an Austrian chess master and chess composer

Julius Perlis studied law at the University of Vienna from 1898 to 1902 and received his doctorate in law in 1903. From 1905 to 1908 he worked as a trainee in a Viennese law firm. He settled in Vienna as a lawyer. Here he often indulged in his hobby of chess in the Café Central. He took part in a total of 13 master tournaments, taking 4th place in the tournament in Barmen in 1905 and 7th place in St. Petersburg in 1909.

In 1910 he narrowly lost a match against Spielmann, winning one game, losing two games and drawing two.

His greatest success came in 1912 in the highly competitive tournament in San Sebastian. Here he finished 5th, drawing twice against tournament winner Rubinstein and winning and drawing once against second-placed Nimzowitsch. Perlis also worked on chess composition.

In 1913 he got lost while hiking in the Ennstal Alps and froze to death.
