Gerardus Hendrik Goethart was a chess composer
The extremely reserved, introverted Gerardus Hendrik Goethart (04.09.1892-17.05.1969) and
Frederik Willem Nanning (04.09.1892-12.06.1958), who in contrast was very outgoing, were born on the same day.born on the same day. Gerardus Goethart composed only about 100 chess problems in half a century,
initially concentrated entirely on two-move problems, whereby he developed the theme named after him (White
unleashes a black piece in a mate move) and reworked it several times. From 1948 onwards
he also increasingly tried his hand at three-moves, although he had already worked in this field in 1921 in collaboration with the famous Hendrik G. M. Weenink (17.10.1892-2.12.1931), whom he had known since the years of the First World War.
