Vasily Mikhailovich Yakhontov ( * Russia, 11.1912- † 1986) Chess player and chess composer

"At the Siberian championship in Barnaul, between Stein and Vasiliev, the representative of the home team Vasily Lepikhin entered the prize pool

(he was a strong candidate for master, the winner of one of the quarterfinals of the USSR championship, and besides, he was considered the unofficial champion of Siberia in preference!).

In this picture of the strongest chess players in Altai in the middle of the 20th century, Lepikhin is 2nd from the right in the front row. And the first on the left in the same row, cut "under Kotovsky" - Vasily Yakhontov."

He grew up in the regional center of Tomsk, where he graduated from an industrial institute.
He moved to Barnaul in the 1950s. He worked at the Barnaul factories as a design engineer.
He was a strong chess player, won the Barnaul championship in 1960.

Vasily composed more than 30 endgame studies according to Vladimir Neistadht. 24 chess studies are in the HHDVI database (Harold van der Heijden database).
