Peter van den Heuvel (* Saturday, 28.09.1968 in the zodiac sign Libra  - † Tuesday, 29.08.2023)

Dutch chess composer

Peter van den Heuvel composed in all genres, with a predilection for proof games. He was also an International Master in problem chess solving.

Memories

"On his pre-WCCC holiday tour in Georgia, Peter van den Heuvel died suddenly on 29 August. On the morning of the 29th, he had posted a photo of Kazbek Mountain on Facebook from his trip to Stepantsminda, Mtskheta-Mtianeti. He was travelling on that day ...

I knew Peter mainly from his various visits to Andernach, he was also at the WCCC in Dresden in 2017 and came third in the retro solving tournament. Peter wasn't even 55 years old.

For many years, Peter was the Probleemblad clerk for fairytale chess and retros chess problems, but above all he was an excellent solver (International Champion since 2002): He was Dutch solving champion nine times (winner of the first solving championship in 1995, so still as a tween, he is also reigning champion). As a chess composer, he has mainly worked with retros and there with (also fabulous) proof games;"  - Thomas Brand
