Richard Crüseman (06.09.1865-21.02.1918)
Chess composer
In its early years, the German Chess Federation often combined problem tournaments with its congresses. This custom had already largely come to a standstill at the beginning of the 20th century when the congress was moved to Hamburg in 1910. Richard Crüseman (6.9.1865-21.2.1918) was one of the organizers there as chairman of the Niederelbischer Schachbund and had a decisive influence on the announcement of a composition tournament, which he himself organized with Otto Fuß and Ferdinand Moeller. The prize report, written by Crüseman and comprising 30 pages in the tournament book, contains 20 prize winners and over 100 other submitted problems, making the congress book a sought-after rarity for problem solvers.
