" Alex made his debut in 1967 with the ¨ Bremer Nachrichten with an orthodox #3, but then quickly got into the fairy chess haze

and became infected with the dangerous Circe virus. His ¨

compositional preference was for self-mates and series moves, often in ¨

combination with Circe. At the end of the 90s it became very quiet

around Alex. It was only about 5 years ago that he took up composing again

. In April of this year, he was even spotted at the Sachsentreffen in

Arnsdorf.

I was able to get to know Alex personally in 1990. After the¨

Andernach meeting, I was his guest for a week in Twistrin- ¨

gen, where we were mainly occupied with grid chess - ¨

the Queck birthday tournament was running, which brought us both some

success. On a trip to Bremen, we visited Herbert Ahues, who had to endure grid chess ¨

. Another tour took us to the Steinhuder Meer. And ¨
