Russian chess composer and International Master of the FIDE (Avenir Nikolayevich Popandopulo)

Avenir Popandopulo was also an International Judge. He composed about 300 strategic more -movers chess problems. About 100 of his problems can be found in R.Kofman's "Избранные композиции" (1985) together with works by Grin, Dombrovskis, Kofman and Kuznetsov. A nice obituary by Russian metal scientists in "Metal Science and Heat Treatment" (August 1988, Volume 30, Issue 8, p 637) had been made available for free on resources.metapress.com but is now on Springer.com.

Popandopulo's name is associated with a battery form in which a battery fires twice with similar but different battery front stones.
