Willy Paul May (21.5.1896-27.12.1962) from Mannheim composed chess problems from 1930 onwards, mainly two-movement works, whose style he himself characterised as "idiosyncratic, modelled on Mansfield" and which was influenced by his contacts with W. Hagemann, A. Klinke, W. Roscher, E. Löbel and the brothers Richard and Rudolf Büchner.
