Vladimir Katsnelson composed chess studies (more than 150), most of the time in collaboration and mostly with his brother Katsnelson, Leonard born1936.

He was a design engineer, chess composer, candidate master of sports in chess composition, author of articles on endgame study topics, member of the editorial board of the collection "Problems and Studies", member of the St. Petersburg Chess Composition Commission.
