Helen Stirling Eadie (7 March 1947 – 9 November 2013) was a Scottish LabourCo-operative politician who sat in the Scottish Parliament from 1999 until her death, first for Dunfermline East and from 2011 for Cowdenbeath.

Personal life

Born in Stenhousemuir, Eadie was educated at Larbert High School, and was a graduate of the London School of Economics where she received a Certificate in Trade Union Studies (Industrial Relations Department) in 1970. She was a member of the Church of Scotland, and was married with two grown up daughters. Prior to her election to Holyrood was a full-time trade union official for the GMB and a councillor on Fife Council. Her father-in-law was former MP for Midlothian Alex Eadie. Eadie worked for her father-in-law and Harry Ewing at Westminster, and was on James Callaghan's general election campaign team.

In 2013, it emerged Eadie was being treated for cancer following diagnosis at the end of October. She died on 9 November 2013.

Political career

 

At Holyrood, Eadie was a member of the Transport and Environment Committeeand European and External Relations Committee, as well as serving as Depute Convener of the Public Petitions Committee in the first session of the Scottish Parliament. In the second session of the Scottish Parliament Eadie was a member of both the Health Committee and the Public Petitions Committee. In the third session Eadie was a member of the Health Committee and Subordinate Legislation Committee, as well as the Bill Committee for the End of Life Assistance (Scotland) Bill.
